The noise came from the opener box itself, and the springs and drive system all looked fine. So, we started our work by looking at Mrs. Sutter’s opener and opened it up after the exterior all looked normal. The motor turbine was misaligned, and over time it wore itself out and damaged the surrounding gears as well. We removed and reinstalled the turbine, replacing several small components and one of the gears. No issues after that!
